Group trail running in Barcelona
Collserola is why trail running on a Tuesday evening is possible in Barcelona. Eight thousand hectares of hills pressed against the city, with a funicular and a commuter line to reach them, and enough of a path network to get lost in on your first attempt alone. In winter it means running after dark, where a head torch and company aren't two options — they're both.
Where people run trail in Barcelona
- Collserola from Vallvidrera
- The most direct way in from the city: take the funicular and you're already there. Everything leaves from here, from hour-long loops to crossings of the whole range.
- Tibidabo
- The high point and the reference for anyone who runs here. There are several ways up, and comparing which one hurts least is most of what gets talked about at the top.
- Carretera de les Aigües
- Technically flat and technically not trail, but it's the spine most of the paths on the Barcelona side hang off. Nearly everything starts or finishes here.
- Montjuïc
- The fallback when there's no time to get up to the range: dirt, steps and climbing ten minutes from the centre. It isn't mountain, but your legs won't notice the difference.
