Group road cycling in Valencia
There's a reason half the professional peloton winters here: you ride in January in short sleeves, and the roads are good in both directions — flat to the south, climbs to the north. The upshot is that riding in a group isn't unusual in Valencia, it's the default — and the wind makes it the sensible option too.
Which way people head
- The southern coast
- Through El Saler and El Perelló towards Cullera, between the Albufera and the sea. Genuinely flat, and only hard when it blows — which is exactly when sitting in stops being a courtesy.
- The Calderona
- North, by Portaceli and Garbí. This is where Valencia stops being flat: short, relentless climbs less than an hour from the city, and the default Saturday ride.
- Inland by Llíria
- Wide roads, little traffic and kilometres to ride without stopping. What you do when the session is about volume rather than vertical.
- The Albufera loop
- Short, flat and much repeated: the midweek ride, the recovery ride, and the one for when there isn't time for anything else.
